Part B- zine 250 evaluation
Part b- final magazine evaluation
250 word evaluation
My project didn’t end up going in the direction I was aiming for as I was originally planning on doing digital designs for my zine but ended up using posca pens to create the 6-page zine with the theme of internalized homophobia, covering the insecurities and fears of accepting yourself and the thought of other people having to accept that or, on the flipside, not accepting it. I was aiming to explore the idea of family members and friends treating you differently, but my magazine ended up only portraying the first-person narrative of trying to accept and understand your own true feelings.
The article I chose did not contain any opinions and I was struggling to delve into it enough to pull it apart and come up with artistic ideas of designs so had to use my imagination instead. I imagined different ways the article could be taken and decided more basic hand drawn illustrative designs would be of higher effect to provoke feelings in the reader. Moreover, over stimulating the pages would’ve caused confusion, therefore I also stuck to a purely red and black color palette which comes across as an angry and frustrated colors. Reflecting the feelings of internalization.
My final zine design didn’t turn out precisely as I had hoped as I wanted to explore more with the screen printing or Riso method of printing but did not get round to doing this therefore they are all a bold paper and pen design...
