Editorial research is not something I’ve ever investigated before and at the beginning I wasn't very inspired by what I found. When I first started researching, I came across very uninteresting and plain illustrations that you would find on Pinterest with overly deep meanings which didn’t entice me at all, but I was originally checking out magazines and therefore I associated it with typical ones such as vogue instead of researching zines created by illustrators themselves. The zines came across such as “anxy magazine” helped me to become somewhat more interested in this topic.

“Anxy” magazines got a lot going on with their magazines, lots of colours and full of photographs compared to

“swim” zine which has next to no writing and full. Of bold double page illustration.
As I researched editorial design more, I realised there was more depth to what I was viewing such as the page layouts, where text goes and typography as the lettering creates the mood for the whole page. Big illustrations and a small amount of text or lots of text accompanied with a small design.
I managed to come across a few magazines related to LGBTQ and the negatives and the positives of this subject which I took inspiration from for my “zine” attempt. I struggled researching scenes that weren't to do with my personal interests which I now regret as it could have helped with the progress of my project. I noticed the majority of these zine illustrations were digitally created which created a better effect for zines but I went down the traditional paper and ink route.
